Cattle History

The Beginning of Breeds
Early cattle were domesticated more than once by separate groups of early humans. This created two distinct types of cattle subgroups: the Bos taurus and the Bos indicus. Both of these groups of cattle were developed on the Indian subcontinent (or India). The Bos taurus were introduced to Africa and Europe where they bred with local wild animals. Eventually, this led to the development of 134 modern breeds of cattle!
